Did you know ?
Entry of Printing Press
Have you ever wondered which was the world’s first printed book and who might have published it?
The answer is....
Johannes Gutenberg, a goldsmith and a businessman from the town of Mainz in south Germany, invented the printing press with movable wooden/metal letters in 1436. This movable type printing press bought down the price of printed materials and created an opportunity for the larger population to obtain such materials.
In 1440 Gutenberg created his printing press i.e., a hand press in which ink was applied over the raised surfaces of movable handset letters held within the wooden form and this form was then pressed against a sheet of paper.
Gutenberg published world’s first printed book called Gutenberg Bible. This had 42 lines per page, hence also called as 42-line bible. His invention got much needed help by a businessman and wealthy moneylender, Johannes Fust, who helped Gutenberg to build his press.
It is said that the Gutenberg bible was first published on September 30,1452. After this many new printing technologies such as offset printing arrived.
